At UCanachieve, each student is infused with positive experiences that offer success and fulfillment, rather than failure and frustration.
All of the young people who arrive at UCanachieve have literally been overdosed on negativity. They have been told time and time again about their repeated “screw-ups”. Teachers, therapists and parents have tried valiantly to get things right, and have been disappointed when things have continued to go wrong.
When I first arrived here, my head was so confused, I couldn’t make any right decisions. This is the first place where people looked at the positive stuff that I could do, instead of filling my head with everything that I do wrong. After a while, I started to think, that maybe, just maybe, I can be something other than a screw-up. Maybe I could start living a better life.
Positive Emotional Experiences
At UCanachieve, we have adopted the Positive Psychology approach spearheaded by Professor Martin Seligman of the University of Pennsylvania. Positive Psychology puts all of its initial focus on identifying strengths and resources. In the initial stage of the therapeutic relationship, focus is placed on identifying the young man’s character strengths. After thoroughly assessing our student’s signature strengths, we develop a therapeutic plan that allows the student to display these strengths in his daily routine at UCanachieve. It is the student’s area of strength that forms the core of the program. Much to the student’s surprise, we are able to identify multiple areas of strength, such as creativity, appreciation of nature, mechanical intelligence, or social intelligence. Rather than force the student down a road that has failed in the past, we use positive experiences to help him discover how much potential he has for the future.
Every staff member is trained and dedicated to providing an authentic, positive relationship with each student. Students are trained in social intelligence development, and learn how to nurture positive, growth producing relationships as opposed to confrontational conflicts.
We are here to help your child discover his uniqueness and achieve success in a positive environment. Call to learn more about UCanachieve My Learning Alternative Program, or just fill out the contact form and click Send. Please share this post!
